A post shared on Facebook claims Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he would no longer take a call from Chinese President Xi Jinping.

French President Emmanuel Macron urged Jinping to talk to Russia about peace in Ukraine, according to Reuters. Zelenskyy had previously expressed willingness for the Chinese leader to visit the country, The Associated Press reported.

The Facebook post claims that Zelenskyy said he would no longer take a call from Jinping.

“‘He had a chance.’ Zelensky said he would no longer take a call from Xi Jinping,” the post reads in part. “‘French colleague Mr. Macron informed me that during his visit to Beijing he persuaded Xi Jinping to call me. Unfortunately, I have to upset him. The Chinese leader had a chance, he missed it.”

The claim is false. If Zelenskyy had actually said he would no longer take a call from Jinping, media outlets would have covered it, yet none have. Check Your Fact reviewed the websites of Zelenskyy’s office and the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and did not find any evidence suggesting that the Ukrainian president was refusing to take a call from Jinping.

Check Your Fact also reviewed the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine’s website and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs websites for any evidence of such a statement. This search also did not yield any results.
