FACT CHECK: No, Nancy Pelosi Did Not Die

An image shared on social media purports California Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi has died.

Verdict: False

The image has been digitally altered.

Fact Check:

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced debt ceiling negotiations are making progress, The Associated Press reported. The budget deadline is June 1, when the Treasury Department will run out of money.

The Facebook post purportedly shows that Pelosi was photographed in a coffin. The image allegedly shows Pelosi in a coffin with a pearl necklace and official documents under her hands.

“WE ARE HERE TO SAVE THE CHILDREN, ALL DAY,” the caption reads. “MISSION COMPLETE…EXECUTED.”

The claim is baseless. The photo has been altered. Check Your Fact conducted a reverse image search that revealed a stock photo that was used as the background of the posted image. The image of Pelosi that was used to alter the image can be found on Getty images and was also used by GQ. The images appear to have been stitched together.

There is no credible news report that suggests this image is real. Pelosi was seen as recently as yesterday, April 25, at a press conference on capitol hill discussing budget cuts. She shared images of herself at this event on her verified social media account. (RELATED: Image Claims To Show Explosion AT Pentagon)

This is not the first time a false claim has been shared online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim Disney World will replace the American flag with the LGBTQ flag in parks for Pride month.
