The claim that Smith only prosecutes Republicans is inaccurate. There is no credible news report that reports that Smith only targets Republicans. Smith has had an extensive career and focused on several types of cases. Smith served as chief of the Justice Department’s public integrity section, according to NBC News.
During his tenure, several prominent Democrats were prosecuted. Democrat Presidential candidate John Edwards was indicted by a federal grand jury and prosecuted on allegations of campaign finance fraud in 2011. Edwards allegedly conspiraed to violate the federal campaign finance laws and for making false statements to the Federal Election Commission, a press release from the office stated at the time.
Also, in 2015 Democrat Senator Robert Menendez was indicted for allegedly accepting bribes from Salomon Melgen, a Florida ophthalmologist to use his position in the senate to financially benefit Melgen. (RELATED: Were There 110,000 Overdose Deaths In 2022?)
