FACT CHECK: Image Showing Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney On A Ron DeSantis-Branded Plane Is Edited
A photo shared on Facebook allegedly shows Republicans former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Utah Sen. Mitt Romney sitting together on a plane which displays advertisements for Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis.
Verdict: False
This image is digitally altered. The original photo shows badges for the 2012 Romney campaign, not the 2024 DeSantis campaign.
Fact Check:
DeSantis unveiled a new economic agenda he called a “declaration of economic independence” at a New Hampshire campaign stop on Monday, according to The Hill. DeSantis repeatedly derided “elites” and pledged to use government power to go after large corporations, NBC News reported.
A Facebook image appears to show Romney and Bush sitting together on a plane. On their headrests, there appears to be a badge that reads “DeSantis 2024” and pictures of DeSantis can be seen on the wall of the plane.
“Sometimes a picture Really is worth a Thousand Words…Note the DeSantis 2024 on the backs of the seats so Yes this is very recent!” the caption reads in part.
The photo is digitally altered, however. The original image was captured in 2012 and posted to Getty Images.
“Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) talks with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush aboard his campaign plane on October 31, 2012 en route to Miami, Florida,” the caption reads in part. In this photo, the seats do not show a logo for the 2024 DeSantis campaign, but the 2012 Romney campaign, instead.
The genuine photo has been published by credible news outlets such as CNN, the New York Magazine and Bloomberg. (RELATED: Are U.S. Navy Seals Arresting Ron DeSantis For Allegedly Running A Child Sex Trafficking Ring?)
