FACT CHECK: Viral Instagram Video Does Not Show Flight Attendant And Trans Passenger Arguing Over Pronouns

A viral video shared on Instagram purports to show an argument between a flight attendant and a transgender passenger over pronouns.

Verdict: False

The video, which was originally shared on Facebook, shows a skit from comedian Jibrizy.

Fact Check:

Students in Pennsylvania’s Perkiomen Valley School District recently walked out of school in protest over a policy that would have made transgender students use the bathroom corresponding to their biological sex, according to Fox News. The students were upset that their local school board failed to adopt the policy, the outlet reported.

“INSANE: Trans person freaks out on an airplane when flight attendant uses the wrong pronoun! Not confirmed if real or not,” the Instagram video’s caption reads. The video, which has received over 70,000 likes, purports to show an argument between a male flight attendant and a female passenger who identifies as transgender. The fight escalates, as the flight attendant refuses to affirm the female passenger’s gender identity.

The video does not show a real incident where a flight attendant and a transgender passenger argue over pronouns, however. The video, which was originally shared on Facebook, shows a skit from comedian Jibrizy.

Jibrizy appears at the video’s conclusion and informs viewers that the scenario “was all a skit.” The comedian also asks viewers to comment on who they felt acted correctly in the situation. Jibrizy’s verified Facebook page clearly identifies him as a comedian.

Likewise, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports detailing any recent incidents about a flight attendant and a transgender passenger arguing over pronouns. (RELATED: Viral Image Purporting To Show Man Wearing ‘Trans Kids Are Sexy’ T-Shirt Is Altered)

Although the video does not actually show an incident involving a flight attendant and a transgender passenger arguing over pronouns, the clip circulated on TikTok and YouTube, where social media users mistook it as real.

Check Your Fact has contacted Jibrizy for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.
