Verdict: False
The claim is inaccurate. The video is from a 2019 soccer game in Morocco.
Fact Check:
The Democratic Socialists of America is seeing backlash after their New York City chapter promoted a pro-Palestine rally after Hamas attacked Israel. Politico reports that New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came out against the rally saying, “It should not be hard to shut down hatred and antisemitism where we see it.”
The Twitter post allegedly shows a massive crowd at a soccer match in Ireland waving the Palestinian flag and carrying signs in support of Palestine after their recent attack on Israel. The caption reads, “Football fans in Ireland raise the flag of Palestine in the stadium during a match to show solidarity with Palestine.”
This video is miscaptioned. There is no credible news report that suggests this video was taken recently in Ireland. The video is from a 2019 soccer match between Morocco and Palestine. (RELATED: Hamas Official Falsely Claims Group Did Not Kill Civilians)
The scoreboard in the video shows “RCA vs Hilal al-Quds.” RCA is a Moroccan soccer team and Hilal Al Quds is a Palestinian soccer team. An advertisement for this match can be seen on RCA’s twitter. The game was played in Morocco at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca on Sept. 23, 2019
This is not the first piece of misinformation surrounding the Israeli-Hamas conflict that has been shared online. Check Your Fact debunked a claim from Hamas officials who claimed they did not kill civilians.
