FACT CHECK: Video Of Israeli Tank Attack From Video Game, Not Genuine

Joseph Casieri | Fact Check Reporter

A video shared on social media purportedly shows an Israeli tank struck by a Hamas rocket attack.

Verdict: False

The video is fabricated.

Fact Check:

President Joe Biden called for a humanitarian pause to the fighting in Gaza in a speech, The Associated Press reported. The White House has not called for a cease-fire.

The Twitter post purports to show an Israeli soldier as they are attacked. The video appears to show an Israeli soldier walking towards a tank when it is suddenly hit by an airstrike.

The caption reads, “InshaAllah, the time of Israel’s destruction is near. May Allah help the Mujahideen and make them victorious. Ameen. The scene of the destruction of the Israeli tank. Palestine will be free.”

The video is fabricated. The video appears to be computer generated footage; some of the details indicate that it is not real, including the movement of the soldier and the explosion. The video is from the video game called “Squad.” The games offer player created content that allows players to simulate certain scenarios.

Hamas has targeted Israeli tanks. Sky News recently reported on a video that was released by Hamas. Hamas militants climbed out of a tunnel and fired at an Israeli force as they moved toward Gaza City. The video shows the tank exploding.  (RELATED: X Post Makes False Claim About UN, Trucks Entering Gaza Strip)
