FACT CHECK: Image Showing Imran Khan Voting From Jail Dates Back To 2018, Is Not Recent
An image shared on X purports to show former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan casting a ballot in the country’s recent general election from the Adiala Jail.

The image is not recent, as it was posted on news and media website Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s verified Facebook page back in 2018. Khan voted in Pakistan’s recent general election by postal ballot from the Adiala Jail, according to a Feb. 8 article published on the website “Dawn.”
Fact Check:
Khan has chosen Omar Ayub as his candidate to be Pakistan’s Prime Minister, according to BBC News. Khan’s nomination follows Pakistan’s recent elections, Reuters reported.
“A picture of Imran Khan casting [his] vote from Adiala Jail,” the post’s caption, which features an image of Khan dropping his ballot into a ballot box, reads. The image has been viewed 1,700 times as of writing. Additionally, a similar iteration of the claim also circulated on Facebook.
The claim is false, as the image is not recent. The image can be traced back to the news and media website Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s verified Facebook page, where it was posted in 2018.
“I just cast my vote, we need your support to continue in our mission for Naya Pakistan … have you cast your vote?” the post’s caption reads, adding the hashtag, “#BallayPeThappa.”
Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find the image referenced in any recent credible news reports. In fact, the opposite is true. India Today, Boom Live, and Logically Facts all indicated the image was taken in 2018. Pakistan’s Ministry of the Interior also has not publicly commented on the claim.
