Verdict: False

The claim is false. A video shared on X by @FLVoiceNews indicates the video shows Florida lawmakers dancing inside the Florida House and was filmed in 2023.

Fact Check:

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens said the southern border is a “national security threat” during a recent interview with CBS News, according to the outlet. Owens’ comments follow a Mar. 21 incident at the border in which migrants breached concertina wire and were forcibly restrained by members of the Texas National Guard, The Hill reported.

“Our borders are wide open and this is what they’re doing in Congress. El Paso is being overrun while our elected officials dance at work,” the Instagram video, viewed over 6,000 times, purports. The split screen video features two clips: one of migrants clashing with the Texas National Guard at the southern border, and the other of what appears to be lawmakers dancing on the House floor.

The claim is false, however. A video shared on X by @FLVoiceNews indicates the video shows Florida lawmakers dancing inside the Florida House and was filmed in 2023.

“HAPPENING NOW: Florida lawmakers dance on House floor,” the video’s caption reads.

The clip is also featured in an over 14-minute video shared on The Florida Channel’s website. The clip of the Florida lawmakers dancing appears at the 13:12-minute timestamp. Rebecca Baer, the anchor who discusses the clip, indicates the lawmakers were celebrating “Boots Day,” a tradition that takes place every year.

Likewise, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim that the clip was recent and showed members of the U.S. Congress. In fact, the opposite is true. Politifact debunked the claim via a Mar. 22 article. (RELATED: Image Allegedly Showing Underneath The Capitol Building Is AI-Generated)
