A video shared on X purports to show Iran’s recent attack on Israel.

Verdict: False

The original video was also shared on X on Feb. 3, making it predate Iran’s recent attack on Israel. Misbar reported the original video appeared to show wildfires that struck Chile at the time.

Fact Check:

Israel will respond to Iran’s recent attack, Israel’s military chief said, but declined to give additional details, according to The Associated Press. Iran struck Israel following an attack on an Iranian consulate in Syria, which resulted in the deaths of two generals, the outlet reported.

The X video, viewed over 1,000 times, purports to show Iran’s recent attack on Israel. “BREAKING: More areas in Israel are impacted by ongoing attacks, intensifying the crisis as fires rage across the country. The situation remains dire as Israel faces widespread destruction,” the video’s caption reads. The video shows what appears to be a nearby blaze.

The claim is false, however. The original video was also shared on X on Feb. 3, making it predate Iran’s recent attack on Israel. The video was posted on the platform by the social media user @chile_accion. (RELATED: Video Claims To Show Palestinians Celebrating Iranian Attack)

“FIRE VALPARAISO REGION Achupallas, Sea Vineyards,” a translation of the video’s caption reads.

Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find the X video referenced in any credible news reports about Iran’s recent attack on Israel. Actually, the opposite is true. Misbar debunked the claim via an April 15 article. The outlet also reported the original Feb. 3 video appeared to show wildfires that struck Chile at the time.

Additionally, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not publicly commented on the video via its website or its associated social media accounts.

Check Your Fact has contacted Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.
