Verdict: False

The claim is false and originally stems from a May 15 article published by “The People’s Voice,” a website that is known for spreading “fake news.” A spokesperson for the UN denied the claim’s validity in an email to Check Your Fact.

Fact Check:

The U.S. is set to boycott a UN tribute to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a recent helicopter crash, according to Reuters. The U.S. “won’t attend this event in any capacity,” an anonymous official said, the outlet reported.

“UN Troops To Be Deployed Across U.S. As Pentagon Prepares for ‘Civil Unrest,'” the headline of the article shared via the Instagram post reads. The post has received over 3,000 likes as of writing.

The claim is false and originally stems from a May 15 article published by “The People’s Voice,” a website that is known for spreading “fake news.” A “Liability Disclaimer” included on the site’s “Terms of Use” page indicates it “makes no representations about the suitability, reliability, availability, timeliness, and accuracy of the information, software, products, services and related graphics contained on the site for any purpose.”

The site, which has previously been known as “NewsPunch” and “YourNewsWire,” is described as “one of the most well-known purveyors of fake news online,” according to a 2019 article from Mashable. (RELATED: Do These Images Show US-Made Explosives Found In Gaza?)

According to the May 15 article, “the Biden regime has agreed to allow thousands of UN troops to be deployed across the U.S. in anticipation of mass civil unrest in America.” The article further claims “[the] U.N. is directing the migrant crisis in America with contingents of its own forces embedded in the military-aged migrant caravans to activate civil unrest at a later date,” citing an apparent report from writer Greg Reese.

Likewise, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. Politifact reported the claim was false on May 23. In addition, the claim is neither referenced on the UN’s website nor its verified social media accounts. Furthermore, the Pentagon has not publicly commented on the claim.

Florencia Soto Nino-Martinez, a spokesperson for the UN, denied the claim’s validity in an email to Check Your Fact.

“The post is false.  The only thing the UN deploys are peacekeepers and this is only done when the parties involved accept the establishment of a peacekeeping mission, which must also be approved by all members of the Security Council,” Nino-Martinez said.
