Harris is interviewing finalists ahead of deciding who will be her running mate in the 2024 presidential election, according to USA Today. Harris will hold her first campaign event with her running mate on August 6 in Philadelphia, the outlet reported.
The screenshot purports to show a tweet from Harris praising the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. “What an impressive show by all of these beautiful and diverse people at the Opening Ceremony of The Olympics! Director Thomas Jolly did an incredible job, and made France look great! America, this is what we need to strive towards!” the purported tweet from Harris reads. The purported tweet also includes photos from the opening ceremony.
The claim is false. Check Your Fact conducted an advanced search of Harris’ verified X account, @KamalaHarris, which did not generate any results for the purported tweet. The remark is also not featured on Harris’ verified government X account, her official website, or her verified Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok accounts.
Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports suggesting Harris made the purported remark. In fact, the opposite is true. The claim follows controversy generated by the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, which featured a drag show version of the Last Supper, according to the New York Post. An Olympics spokesperson confirmed Thomas Jolly, the opening ceremony’s creative director, drew inspiration from painter Leonardo da Vinci’s historic painting of the Christian event, the outlet reported.
