Verdict: False
The video is from 2010 and shows Combs speaking about Haiti.
Fact Check:
Combs has been taken off suicide watch in the Brooklyn detention center he is being held after being arrested Sep. 16, Daily Mail reported. Combs was under the watch due to his mental state being “unclear,” now he is scheduled to appear in court next month, according to the outlet.
A post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, alleges a video that Combs shared from prison. The video shows the musician very close to the camera with a purple wall behind him.
In the video Combs can be heard saying in part, “As I’m glued to the TV and, you know, I’m trying to figure out, like, what’s even going on. How is this happening?”
The caption reads, “Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs speaks from prison! What are your thoughts?”
The claim is inaccurate. The video was uploaded to YouTube on his official channel in 2010. In the video, Diddy spoke about Haiti. The description reads, “A message to Haiti.”
Haiti was struck by a magnitude 7 earthquake on Jan. 12, 2010 that killed 220,000, NPR reported. (Fact Check: Do These Images Show The Inside Of Diddy’s Home During Raid?)
This is not the first time misinformation about Diddy has circulated online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that a headline claimed that a LeBron James and Diddy “sextape” was revealed.
