FACT CHECK: Video Shows 2003 Baghdad Bombing, Not Israeli Attack

A post shared on X claims to show the Israeli military bombing Lebanon.

Verdict: False

The video is from the U.S. bombing of Baghdad, Iraq in 2003. It has nothing to do with the current conflict in the Middle East.

Fact Check:

The Houthis claimed to have targeted Tel Aviv with long-range drones, according to the Times of Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF)  claimed to have shot down a drone while another crashed into an open area, per the outlet.

Social media users are claiming to show Israel bombing Hezbollah. One user wrote, “In the Middle East, force is the only language understood and respected. Yesterday, Israel reclaimed the respect it lost on October 7th, showing the world its strength and resilience. This is how a nation defends its people and its pride!”

This claim is false. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the video is from the 2003 U.S. bombing of Baghdad.  It was posted in 2023 by a Turkish outlet.  A similar video was posted to YouTube in 2022 from a British outlet.

The U.S. invaded Iraq in 2003 and overthrew longtime dictator Saddam Hussein, according to the Council of Foreign Relations. Logically Facts also debunked the claim. (RELATED: Did JD Vance Follow Trump Would-Be Assassin On Social Media?)
