Fact Check:
Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida as a Category 3 hurricane and left over 2 million Floridians without power. The storm caused significant flooding and tornadoes, according to The Associated Press.
A post made on X claims to depict different videos of Hurricane Milton. The caption reads, “OMG! Milton!” and the attached montage consists of six video clips. (RELATED: Will Hurricane Milton Be A Category 6 Hurricane?)
The claim is false. The second clip was originally posted to YouTube in July and depicts a tornado in Iowa. The third clip was originally posted to YouTube in 2022 and was created by a VFX artist.
The fourth clip was originally posted to YouTube in 2022. The fifth clip was originally posted to YouTube in 2016 and depicts Hurricane Matthew. The sixth clip was originally uploaded online in 2021.
[S]irens, alarm, in this neighborhood at the arrival of a destructive tornado , the fear at the arrival with the sound is shocking, Fear!!! the video is spectacular,” the video reads in Spanish, which Check Your Fact translated using Google Translate and indicates that the video was taken in Wisconsin.
Furthermore, an X user reposted the video calling out the original post’s claim. The post reads, “This is a FAKE!! TikTok’er ‘storm.13’ was posting fake hurricane Milton videos yesterday and today 7 to 10 hours ago.”
This is not the only montage of various storms that has been miscaptioned as Hurricane Milton footage. Check Your Fact debunked a claim that a post made on X depicted Hurricane Milton.
