A video shared on Facebook claims to show Ryan Routh, who plotted to assassinate former President Donald Trump, at a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris three days before he was arrested.

Verdict: False

The man in the video is different from Routh.

Fact Check:

Social media users are claiming that Routh, who was arrested and charged for attempting to assassinate Trump, appeared at a North Carolina Harris rally just days before.

“UPDATE: 2nd Trump Assassination Attempt The Shooter, Ryan Routh,is believed to have been spotted at Kamala Harris’ North Carolina Rally on September 12,” one post reads. (RELATED: Did Donald Trump Donate $25 Million Dollars to Hurricane Victims?)

However, there is no evidence for this claim. No credible news outlets have reported that Routh attended a Harris rally in North Carolina before he was arrested for attempting to assassinate Trump. Lead Stories obtained a better version of the video and compared it to the mugshots of Routh.

First, the man in the video has an earring. Routh does not have one, nor does he appear to have one in mugshot or a piercing mark. Second, the man in the video does not appear to have blonde hair, which Routh does. Routh also does not appear to have freckles, while the man in the video has at least two in places where Routh does not have one.

AFP Fact Check also debunked this claim, with an expert telling the outlet that “[t]he findings provide strong support that the images depict different people.”
