FACT CHECK: Does This Video Show Recent Detention Of Hezbollah Fighter In Lebanon?

A post shared on social media purportedly shows a Lebanese Druze checkpoint checking for Hezbollah terrorists.

Verdict: False

The video is from 2021.

Fact Check:

A United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon reported that they were fired upon by Israeli forces, CBS News reported. The mission’s headquarters was hit by Israeli tanks which injured two, they were sent to a hospital where they are staying for now.

A post shared on Facebook purports to show Lebanese people halting the movements of Hezbollah fighters. The video shows a large crowd surrounding a black car with a man sitting in the back.

“Lebanese Druze have set up checkpoints in their town to ensure no Hezbollah terrorists try to hide among them,” the caption reads. “When people cheer on Hezbollah in the West, they should know that Hezbollah is also the enemy of the Lebanese people.”

The claim is inaccurate. The video dates back to 2021. “A young man in the prime of his life goes to the border, launches missiles at the alleged entity, and draws lines and equations of deterrence, challenging all the forces of arrogance in the world…
and a bunch of thugs from your country come to you and block his way,” a translated version of the post reads. “I saw it in the young man’s eyes in surprise (as if he was saying, ‘Brother, I didn’t make a mistake along the way. By God, I’m still in Lebanon. Who is this!!!!’). #Shame on the hand that reaches out to the resistance and its people, it will be cut off.”

Local news reported on the incident at the time. A translation of the headline reads, “Video – Security services receive rocket launcher launched from Lebanese territory.”

A longer video was uploaded to YouTube on August 2021. The translated description reads, “The young man Yahya Timani posted a video taken live from one of the Lebanese regions, showing a number of young men and men rising up and clashing with elements who the young man says are from Hezbollah and want to launch rockets from their region among civilians.”. (Fact Check: Did Iran Conduct A Nuclear Test That Triggered An Earthquake?)

This is not the first time misinformation has circulated online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim Pakistan threatened nuclear retaliation against Israel.
