FACT CHECK: Trump Campaign Falsely Claims Kamala Harris Used Teleprompter During Town Hall Appearance

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign shared an X video claiming that Vice President Kamala Harris was using a teleprompter during a Univision town hall appearance.

Verdict: False

The event’s moderator and the president of Univision News each made posts stating that the claim is false.

Fact Check:

After polls show that Harris is losing the support of some African-American men, Harris has introduced an initiative to give forgivable loans to Black entrepreneurs, according to NPR. The initiative also includes legalizing recreational marijuana and protection for digital assets, the latter of which more than 20% of Black Americans have a history of owning.

The Trump campaign shared a video claiming that Harris used the help of a teleprompter during a recent Univision town hall. The video shows Harris mid-speech when the camera pans behind her to show a teleprompter with text too small to be made out.

“The teleprompter,” the account captioned the video. (RELATED: Here’s What We Know About Claims That Kamala Harris Staged A Photo Op For Hurricane Helene Aid)

This claim is false. Within the last second of the video, the teleprompter cuts off, Harris keeps speaking without interruption. The clip shown in the post was taken from around the 6 minute timestamp of the YouTube video uploaded by Univision. The teleprompter does not turn back on and Harris continues to speak without its aid.

Univison also pushed back against the claims. The town hall moderator, Enrique Acevedo, wrote in a X post that the teleprompter was in Spanish and was related to him, not Harris.

Daniel Coronell, the president of Univision News, similarly made a post to dispel the misconception.

“That’s not true. The teleprompter that displays a text written in Spanish was a support element for the town hall moderator. I can tell you this with first-hand knowledge because I was in charge of the television program,” Coronell tweeted.

Aaron Blake, a Washington Post reporter, also said that the text was in Spanish.

“All the MAGA influencers on here are claiming Harris used a teleprompter for her Univision town hall. The problem: The text on the prompter is evidently in Spanish,” Blake tweeted.
