No reputable sources have reported that Carter passed away. The owner of the X account admitted to making up the claim in a separate post.

Fact Check:

A post made on X claims former President Jimmy Carter has passed away. The Oct. 15 post’s caption reads, “Jimmy Carter Has Died.”

The claim is false. As of October 16th, no reputable sources have reported that Carter has passed away. On October 15th, the former president cast his ballot in Georgia as the state began its first day of early voting. (RELATED: Did Former President Jimmy Carter Vote For Kamala Harris?)

An X user commented on the post with a comment that reads, “I couldnt find any info. How did you find out?” The owner of the X account that made the claim answered the question with a comment that reads, “I made it up.”

The former president celebrated his 100th birthday on October 1st. According to USA Today, Carter is the first U.S. President to turn 100-years-old. Prior to this historic birthday, Jimmy Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, told the Atlanta-Journal Constitution that Carter had stated, “I’m only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris.”
