FACT CHECK: Did FEMA Hire Illegal Immigrants For Hurricane Relief Efforts?

A post shared on social media purports that President Joe Biden has ordered the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to hire 17,000 illegal immigrants for hurricane clean up.

Verdict: False

The claim is inaccurate. The statement stems from satire.

Fact Check:

Former President Donald Trump claimed that former President Barack Obama sabotaged Biden’s campaign and called it “terrible,” citing when Obama led him off a stage, Fox News reported. Trump also claimed that Harris is “worse” than Biden and that early voting is exceeding his expectations, according to the outlet.

A post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, alleges FEMA is hiring illegal immigrants to work in hurricane relief. The post shared a photo of Biden superimposed over a photo of a destroyed building.

The caption reads, “Biden has ordered FEMA to hire 17,000 illegals to help clean up after Hurricane Helene.”

The claim is inaccurate. There is no credible news report that suggests that FEMA hired illegals to work in Hurricane relief. The post links to an article from a satirical news outlet called the Dunning Kruger Times. The article offers no evidence or sources to back up this claim

The about section of the website features a disclaimer that reads, “Dunning-Kruger-Times.com is a subsidiary of the ‘America’s Last Line of Defense’ network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery.” Furthermore, in the bottom right corner of the image features a label that identifies the claim as satire, but in the X post it is partially covered. This is not the first time misinformation has circulated online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that Sean “Diddy” Combs released a video from prison.
