FACT CHECK: Did Trump Say He Would Change The Oil Used For Fryers During His Visit To McDonald’s?
A post shared on social media purports that former President Donald Trump claimed he will get rid of the seed oils used to make the fries during his visit to McDonald’s.
Verdict: False
Trump did not say this. Video of the interaction is available online and does not show him making the claim.
Fact Check:
Trump arrived at a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin in a garbage truck while wearing a garbage worker’s vest, The Associated Press reported. This attire, and sitting in a garbage truck, was in response to President Joe Biden claiming that Trump supporters are garbage.
A post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, allegedly shows a quote from Trump when he made a campaign stop at McDonald’s. The post shared a screenshot of a post that includes an image of Trump in an apron standing with a McDonald’s employee in uniform.
The post claims he said, “Ya’ll starting to connect the dots now? Hopefully you innerstand why Mc Donald’s is back in the picture for many reasons it is. Big changes coming! DJT “I was talking to RFK Jr, you know he endorsed me, he’s a big Trump guy now. MAHA they call it, Make America Healthy Again. He was telling me these seed oils in the fryers are toxic. We want them OUT! They used to be made in beautiful tallow. We’re going to bring the tallow back folks.”
The claim is inaccurate. The original video of him discussing the food at the fast food restaurant does not show him make any such comment.
Trump was recently endorsed by Robert F. Kennedy Jr, according to Politico. RFK has made many statements about fast food and the manner in which the food is prepared. In an Instagram post Kennedy suggested seed oils are a contributing factor in the poor health of many Americans. He stated that obesity “began to drastically rise around the same time fast food restaurants switched from beef tallow to seed oils in their fryers.
