Verdict: Misleading
The organization offers individuals $200 to become a voting ambassador and encourage their family and friends to vote, not to endorse a specific candidate. The organization itself, though, endorses Harris.
Fact Check:
Harris is projected to win the state of Vermont, according to The Hill, who cited Decision Desk HQ. The projected win gives Harris three electoral votes, the outlet reported.
The Instagram video, which has received over 600 likes as of writing, claims Turnout the Vote is purportedly offering people $200 to vote for Harris. In the video, an unnamed female shows a purported text from the organization that she says offers people money to vote for Harris. The same woman then accuses the organization of trying to “rig” the election.
The claim is false. According to Turnout the Vote’s website, they offer individuals $200 to become a voting ambassador and encourage their family and friends to vote, not to endorse a specific candidate.
“You’ll attend a one-hour Zoom Onboarding Session and a one-hour Zoom Get Out the Vote event,” the website indicates under its Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section.
“Sessions are offered multiple times a day every day, so you’ll pick a time that works for you. Then, you’ll have conversations with friends and family about the election and encourage them to get out to vote, and share details with us about the conversations you have,” the website adds.
Under the same FAQ section, the organization indicates participants can earn $160 for completing the program, $10 or up to $200 per successful referral, and up to $400 in all for participating in the ambassador program.
While the voting ambassador program does not support a specific candidate, the organization itself supports Harris, according to its website.
Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports to support the claim made via the Instagram video. Actually, the opposite is true. On November 5, Politifact debunked the claim. (RELATED: Is Google Showing A Map When Searching “Where To Vote For Harris” But Not For Trump?)
In addition, Harris does not appear to have publicly commented on the claim via her 2024 campaign website or her verified social media accounts.
