FACT CHECK: Did US Marines Arrest PA Television Executive Who Aired Graphic Claiming Harris Won Election?
A post shared on Facebook claims U.S. Marines purportedly arrested a Pennsylvania television executive who aired a graphic claiming 2024 Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris won the election.
Verdict: False
The claim is false and originally stems from a Nov. 4 article published on the satire site “Real Raw News.”
Fact Check:
A new PBS News/NPR/Marist poll shows Harris has a four-point lead over 2024 Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump “among likely voters” nationally, PBS reported. The poll places Harris at 51% support and Trump at 47% support, the outlet indicated.
The Facebook post claims U.S. Marines purportedly arrested a Pennsylvania television executive from WNEP-TV who aired a “test graphic” claiming Harris won the 2024 presidential election. An alleged investigation into WNEP-TV revealed the news station had ties to Democratic candidates, including Harris, thereby affecting their ability to be impartial in their reporting.
The Marines made the purported arrest on Oct. 31, according to the same post. The alleged charges were “treason, election interference, and intent to willfully disseminate enemy propaganda.”

Although the claim about the purported arrest is satirical, WNEP did recently air a graphic claiming Harris had won the 2024 presidential election, the Washington Times reported. The graphic showed Harris had beaten Trump by a 52% to 47% margin, with the station labeling the move as a “technical mistake.” (RELATED: Video Showing Pennsylvania Election Results Is From Test)
“Those numbers should not have appeared on the screen, and it was an error by WNEP that they did,” WNEP said, according to the outlet.
