A post on X claims that a voter in Kentucky using an electronic voting machine was prevented from voting for Donald Trump, with their votes being automatically changed to Kamala Harris.

Verdict: Misleading

Laurel County Clerk Tony Brown says it was a ballot marking machine and not one that processes votes. The machine was temporarily taken out of service, and the voter was eventually able to vote for their preferred candidate.

Fact Check:

A post going viral on X claims to show a voting machine in Kentucky that wouldn’t let a voter cast a ballot for former President Donald Trump. She is seen pressing the area of the screen with Trump’s name, but seeing Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris’ ticket highlighted instead.

While the video is real, local officials tell a different story. They claim that the issue may have simply been a malfunctioning machine, not a concerted effort to negate a vote for Mr. Trump. The machine was immediately taken out of service, and the voter was able to cast a correct ballot.

Russell Coleman, the Republican Attorney General for Kentucky, says they recommended the machine be pulled for investigation upon hearing of the issue. He adds that Kentucky voters can be confident that the state’s elections are secure.

Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams, who is also a Republican, confirmed to WLKY that the voter was able to confirm her ballot was correct. “Get your voting information from legitimate sources, not TikTok or cat turds,” Adams said, seemingly taking a jab at popular right-wing X personality Catturd.

>Laurel County officials had issues recreating the problem during it’s investigation, and the machine is now back into service. Some attribute the issue to voter error, claiming that the machine would have worked properly had the voter touched the correct spot on the screen.
