Fact Check:
Harris called President-elect Donald Trump to congratulate him on winning the presidential election after he won Michigan, according to NPR. A Trump spokesperson said Harris and Trump agreed on “the importance of unifying the country” while Harris also noted that the transition should also be “peaceful,” the outlet reported.
An Instagram video allegedly shows Harris saying that it’s wrong to say the phrase “Merry Christmas.” The post shows a video of Harris talking in which she says, “How dare we speak Merry Christmas? How dare we?” It then cuts to a clip of former President Donald Trump saying “Well guess what? We’re saying Merry Christmas again,” and shows various clips of Trump and his wife Melania Trump among Christmas trees and other decorations.
The video has been taken out of context, however. A longer clip of her speech was posted by Fox News, which reported that she was speaking at a 2017 press conference after then-President Donald Trump announced the end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Her comment was made in response to the effects the ending of the plan would have on those enrolled. “And when we all sing happy tunes, and sing Merry Christmas, and wish each other Merry Christmas, these children are not going to have a Merry Christmas. How dare we speak Merry Christmas? How dare we? They will not have a Merry Christmas,” Harris said in the video. (RELATED: Is Turnout The Vote Offering People $200 To Vote For Kamala Harris?)
