A viral post shared on X claims Vice President Harris purportedly said she won’t attend the “presidential induction ceremony.”

Verdict: False

Harris has not referenced the claim via her 2024 campaign website, verified social media accounts, or her post-election concession speech. She did, however, mention ensuring a peaceful transfer of power during her speech, a transcript from TIME Magazine shows.

Fact Check:

Donald Trump claimed victory over Harris in the 2024 election and has become the 47th president, according to The Washington Post. Despite losing to Trump, Harris urged her supporters to keep fighting in her concession speech, The Associated Press reported.

The X post, viewed over four million times, claims Harris purportedly said she won’t attend the “presidential induction ceremony.”

“Kamala Harris has announced she won’t be showing up for the presidential induction ceremony,” the post, which does not provide a source to support its claim, reads. The post appears to refer to the presidential inauguration.

The claim is false. Harris has not referenced the claim on her 2024 campaign website or her verified social media accounts. Likewise, Harris did not say she’d be skipping the presidential inauguration in her post-election concession speech.

She did, however, mention ensuring a peaceful transfer of power during the speech, according to a transcript from TIME Magazine.

“Now, I know folks are feeling and experiencing a range of emotions right now. I get it, but we must accept the results of this election. Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition and that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power,” Harris said, the transcript shows.

In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Nov. 6, Lead Stories debunked the claim, also referencing Harris’ comments about ensuring a peaceful transfer of power from her concession speech.
