FACT CHECK: No Evidence Trump Hired Person Who ‘Wrote’ Project 2025

Verdict: Misleading
There is no evidence Trump hired Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts, who wrote the foreword for Project 2025, which is spear-headed by the Heritage Foundation. It is possible that Trump might have hired or will hire people who contributed to Project 2025.

Social media users are claiming that Trump hired the “guy who wrote Project 2025.” One user wrote, “The guy who said he didn’t know anything about Project 2025 just announced he’s hiring the guy who wrote Project 2025…Are you paying ATTENTION, yet?!”
There are several issues with this claim. Project 2025 is an effort led by the Heritage Foundation, which put out its Mandate for Leadership and has a database of personnel that could theoretically work in a possible Trump administration. There is no single author of Project 2025, with each section written by a different person.
The Heritage Foundation is led by Roberts, who wrote the foreword. While he has personal connections with the Trump campaign (vice presidential nominee JD Vance wrote the foreword to his book), there is no evidence he has been hired by Trump to work in his upcoming administration.
It is possible that Trump will hire or has hired people who contributed to Project 2025. Several individuals who worked on Project 2025 used to work in the first Trump administration, according to CNN. There are, though, dozens of groups involved in Project 2025, not just the Heritage Foundation.
Trump has also consistently distanced himself from the Heritage Foundation-led effort. For example, his campaign issued a July 30 statement saying that “Project 2025 had nothing to do with the campaign.” (RELATED: Did Hillsborough County Close An Election Day Voting Site?)
