Neither McDonald’s nor Kennedy, Jr. have publicly referenced the claim on their respective websites and social media accounts. In addition, Politifact debunked the claim on Nov. 19.
Fact Check:
Republican Senators, including Mike Rounds (South Dakota) said Kennedy, Jr. will have to explain his perspective on health-related issues such as vaccines during the confirmation process, according to The Washington Post. Besides vaccines, Kennedy, Jr. has taken aim at the use of genetically modified foods, the outlet reported.
The Instagram video, which has received over 1,000 likes as of writing, claims McDonald’s purportedly offered Kennedy, Jr. $850 million in “hush money.”
In the video, an unnamed woman claims McDonald’s is offering the money to Kennedy, Jr. for exposing their use of seed oils in their fast food products. The video includes a clip of Kennedy, Jr. discussing seed oils on Fox News.
The claim is false. The McDonald’s Corporation has neither issued a press release nor a social media statement responding to the claim. Likewise, Kennedy Jr. has not referenced the claim on his website or his verified Facebook, X, or Instagram accounts.
In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Nov. 19, PolitiFact debunked the claim. The outlet also indicated that Kennedy, Jr. said he is against seed oils, not fast food, via the Fox News clip featured in the Instagram video. During his Oct. 29 appearance on the network, Kennedy, Jr. suggested McDonald’s return to cooking their food in tallow fat, according to the outlet. (RELATED: No, Elon Musk Is Not Buying McDonald’s)
Kennedy, Jr. has been nominated to serve as President-elect Donald Trump’s Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).
