A video shared on X claims President Joe Biden has announced he’ll live in Zanzibar after retirement.

Verdict: False

The claim is false, as the video has been digitally altered with artificial intelligence (AI). A media forensics and AI expert confirmed the video had been altered in an email to Check Your Fact.

Fact Check:

Biden pardoned his final pair of turkeys as president ahead of Thanksgiving, according to The Washington Post. The turkeys, Peach and Blossom, were raised by National Turkey Federation Chairman John Zimmerman, the outlet reported.

The X video claims Biden has announced he’ll live in Zanzibar after retirement. In the video, Biden appears to make the announcement from behind a podium bearing the President of the United States’ official seal.

The claim is false. A content detection scan using the website “TrueMedia.org” indicates the video bears “substantial evidence of manipulation” and contains audio that was created with AI. Likewise, Check Your Fact found no reference to the claim on the White House’s website or its verified social media accounts. Biden also does not appear to have publicly commented on the claim using his personal or government X accounts.

In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Nov. 26, AFP debunked the claim.

According to the outlet, an authentic video of Biden delivering remarks to the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives in 2022 had been altered, and its audio had been replaced with AI-generated audio. (RELATED: Did Joe Biden Agree To A Recount Of The 2024 Presidential Election?)

Dr. Walter Scheirer, a media forensics and AI expert at the University of Notre Dame, confirmed the video had been altered in an email to Check Your Fact.

“This is an obviously satirical fake video of Joe Biden that isn’t even attempting to fool the public. The text overlay visible throughout the video is for elontalks.com, a Deepfake generation site that has Joe Biden’s likeness as a template, which is the likely source. Biden is a major public figure who is widely covered by the press — if he was retiring to Zanzibar, we would have heard about that by now,” Scheirer said.

Check Your Fact has also contacted the White House for comment.
