Verdict: False
Reid has not stated this at all.
Fact Check:
Following Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 Presidential Election, celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres have already moved to the United Kingdom, while actress Sharon Stone is looking to relocate to Italy. MSNBC host Joy Reid has also changed how she uses social media, telling her audience that she will be leaving X in favor of Bluesky, a more progressive-oriented app.
A post with over 175,000 views claims that the ‘ReidOut’ host will be moving to London in early January, ahead of Trump’s inauguration ceremony. “Joy Reid has announced that she will be moving to London in early January,” the post’s caption reads.
There is no evidence to support this, however. A Google search for any mention of her stating an upcoming move turns up empty. There are also no references to any upcoming move on her Bluesky page, which she is now posting on frequently.
The post originates from the outlet “RT America,” which no longer exists. The account that posted the fake claim, which calls itself a “Parody artist” in it’s X bio amongst other not safe for work quips, is modeled to look like the American bureau of the Russian state-controlled news outlet RT. There is no affiliation between the two, however, and the official United States bureau of RT was shut down in 2022.
