A post shared on social media purportedly shows a video of President Joe Biden smiling at a question about pardoning Hunter Biden.

Verdict: False

The video is edited.

Fact Check:

Republican lawmakers have attacked Biden for his pardon of his son due to previous comments regarding the judicial system, Fox News reported. Several Republicans took to social media to share Biden’s previous statement that “no one is above the law,” and use it criticize his recent decision, according to the outlet.

A post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, allegedly shows a video of Biden mischievously smiling at a reporter who asked about the potential of pardoning his son. Before Biden makes the face, a reporter in the audience can be heard asking if his son could get a pardon.

The caption reads, “He probably had it planned the whole time he was in the whitehouse just kept saying he wouldn’t.”

The claim is inaccurate. The video dates back to May 2024 when Biden was asked about Trump’s comment claiming that he is a political prisoner. Biden then turned and smiled at the question.

The post stems from a satirical account called The Gas Stove. The account’s bio reads, “I break stories, call out hypocrites and occasionally gaslight. AOC tried to ban me, jokes on her.  (RELATED: Did Joe Biden Agree To A Recount Of The 2024 Presidential Election?)

This is not the first time misinformation has circulated online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim Michelle Obama regrets endorsing Kamala Harris.
