FACT CHECK: Facebook Image Does Not Show Authentic Headline From Christian Website About Hunter Biden Pardon
An image shared on Facebook purports to show a headline from The Gospel Coalition about President Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden.
Verdict: False
The claim is false. A spokesperson for The Gospel Coalition denied the outlet had published the headline, according to USA Today.
Fact Check:
Anita Dunn, a former senior adviser to Biden, said she did not agree with the way the President’s pardon of his son “was done” or “the timing,” according to CNN. Dunn made the remark during a Dec. 4 New York Times DealBook Summit event, the outlet reported.
The Facebook image purports to show a headline from The Gospel Coalition about Biden’s decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden.
“‘By Pardoning His Son Joe Biden Exemplifies The Gospel,'” the purported headline, which appears to have been published on December 3 and authored by “Russel Moore,” reads.
The claim is false. Check Your Fact did not find the claim referenced on The Gospel Coalition’s website or its verified social media accounts. Likewise, Biden does not appear to have publicly commented on the claim using his personal or government X accounts. The White House has not publicly commented on the claim, either.
Check Your Fact also found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On December 11, USA Today debunked the claim, reporting the headline was “fabricated.”
Collin Hansen, editor-in-chief for The Gospel Coalition, denied the headline’s authenticity in an email to USA Today.
“This story is a hoax. We never published such an article,” Hansen said, according to the outlet.
In addition, the outlet indicated the supposed author of the fabricated post, Russel Moore’s name is misspelled. In the fabricated image, Russell is spelled using only one “L.” Furthermore, the most recent post that appears on Moore’s author page was published in June 2022, USA Today reported.
