A post shared on X claims the Trump family has purportedly been banned from visiting Panama for 100 years.

Verdict: False

The claim is false and originally stems from an X account that is known for posting satire.

Fact Check:

President-elect Donald Trump’s lawyers have asked New York Judge Juan Merchan to halt his Jan. 10 sentencing for his hush money payments case, according to The Associated Press. Trump’s lawyers have appealed the decision, the outlet reported.

The X post claims the Trump family has purportedly been banned from visiting Panama for 100 years.

“All trumps [sic] banned from Panama for 100 years. Carry on,” the post, which does not provide a source to support its claim, reads.

The claim is false and originally stems from a Jan. 2 post shared by @TheHalfwayPost, an X account that is known for posting satire. The account describes itself as sharing “Halfway true comedy and satire” via its bio. The Jan. 2 post shared by the account has amassed one million views as of writing.

Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find the claim referenced on Trump’s official website, his TRUTH Social account, or his verified social media accounts. In addition, neither Trump’s wife, Melania Trump, nor his elder children, Donald Trump, Jr., Eric Trump, Ivanka Trump, or Tiffany Trump appear to have publicly commented on the claim. Jose Raul Mulino, the current president of Panama, has not referenced the claim, either.

Check Your Fact also did not find any credible news reports to support the claim. In fact, the opposite is true. On Jan. 3, Snopes debunked the claim, indicating it originated via the same satirical X account.

The claim appears to have circulated online following comments from Trump in which he suggested regaining control of the Panama Canal, according to The Associated Press. (RELATED: Claim That Lauren Boebert Said Egypt Owns The Panama Canal Is Satire)
