A post on X claims that former Democratic Attorney General and new Governor of North Carolina Josh Stein is recovering from a stroke.

Verdict: False

Stein suffered a stroke in 2022 but fully recovered. There is no proof that he was injured due to any vaccines.

Fact Check:

Former North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein was sworn in for his first term as Governor Jan. 1, taking over for fellow Democrat Roy Cooper. Stein defeated Republican nominee for Governor and incumbent Lt. Governor Mark Robinson by almost 15 points, continuing a run of 8 Democratic wins for the governor’s office since 1992.

A post on X claims that there is a report from the Associated Press saying the new Governor is currently recovering from a stroke. It raises questions about his fit for office, and if maybe his stroke was caused by a vaccine.

The post is false and misleading, however. Stein suffered a “mini stroke” in 2022, and is said to be fully recovered. The false X post did not add any links to support it’s claims. A Google search for any AP articles about Stein’s stroke only show published work dating from 2022, and no current news is found on their website or social media.

Stein is said to currently be healthy and did not suffer any lingering effects as he took office.
