Verdict: False
The 2024 Electoral College votes are available via the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)’s website. The results of the 2024 presidential election were certified during a joint session of Congress on January 6, 2025, according to The Associated Press. In addition, a spokesperson for NARA described the certification process in an email to Check to Your Fact.
Fact Check:
During a post-election certification address, President-elect Donald Trump announced $20 billion in new data centers, according to Fox News. The investment will aid in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud-based technologies, the outlet reported.
The Threads post, which has received over 400 likes as of writing, claims 22 states have not uploaded their Electoral College certifications.
“22 states still haven’t uploaded their Electoral College certifications—and the results are supposed to be certified tomorrow. That. Ain’t. Normal. 6 of those states are swing states. You know, the ones that decide elections…,” the post, which does not provide a source to support its claim, reads.
The claim is false. The 2024 Electoral College votes are available via NARA’s website. Beneath the total vote count are the Electoral College certificates and votes by state. Both the total vote count and the individual count by state show Trump received 312 electoral votes, while Democratic candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris received 226 electoral votes.
Likewise, the results of the 2024 presidential election were certified on Jan. 6, 2025, during a joint session of Congress, according to The Associated Press. Harris presided over the session in which the results were read state by state, the outlet reported. (RELATED: Did Lindsey Graham Already Vote Against RFK Jr.’s Potential Cabinet Appointment?)
In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports suggesting 22 states have not uploaded their Electoral College certifications. Actually, the opposite is true. On Jan. 6, Lead Stories debunked the claim. The outlet cited U.S. Code Title 3, Chapter 1, Section 12, which indicates that each state’s electoral votes must be certified and received by no later than the fourth Wednesday in December.
Furthermore, a spokesperson for NARA described the certification process in an email to Check to Your Fact.
“The National Archives has received all Certificates of Vote, which are paper. After we scan and convert the paper certificates to PDFs, making sure they meet accessibility requirements, we upload the files to our website. The National Archives provides these digital copies for public access.”
“Note that the states send official paper Certificates of Vote to the U.S. Senate, which are used when Congress counts the vote. States also send an official set to the National Archives as part of the official records of the Presidential election,” the spokesperson said.
“Congress does not rely on the National Archives’ set of certificates when counting the vote. All copies of the certificates become part of the permanent holdings of the National Archives. The National Archives paper certificates are available to be seen in person by request for one year. The digital copies remain online,” the spokesperson added, directing us to a list of key dates regarding the Electoral College’s timeline of events.
