Verdict: False

The tweet is fake. The authentic Jan. 3 tweet shared on Trump’s verified X account states that he “was right about everything” and does not mention Robinson at all.

Fact Check:

Trump was sentenced in his hush money payments case Friday, according to The Associated Press. New York Judge Juan Merchan “declined to impose any punishment [on Trump],” the outlet reported.

The Threads image, viewed over 100 times as of writing, purports to show a Jan. 3 tweet from Trump reading, “Free Tony Robinson!.”  “Yeh [sic], Baldrick is innocent!” the image’s caption reads.

The claim is false. Check Your Fact reviewed Trump’s verified X account, @realDonaldTrump, and did not find any reference to the purported tweet. A Jan. 3 post shared to Trump’s account reads, “TRUMP WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!.”

Likewise, the claim does not appear on Trump’s official website, his TRUTH Social account, or his verified Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok accounts. In addition, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports to support the claim.

Actually, the opposite is true. On Jan. 9, Logically Facts debunked the claim, indicating the purported tweet is fabricated. According to the outlet, the purported tweet appears to confuse British actor Sir Anthony Robinson, who played Baldrick on the BBC sitcom, “Blackadder,” with jailed British political activist Tommy Robinson. Tommy Robinson is the founder of the English Defence League, according to Forbes. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison for contempt after he repeatedly violated a court order that found him liable for making libelous claims about a Syrian refugee, the outlet reported.

Check Your Fact has contacted a Trump spokesperson for comment.
