A post shared on X claims that President-elect Donald Trump’s ear shows he was not shot.

Verdict: False

The Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed Trump was shot in the ear.

Fact Check:

Trump attended former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, alongside President Joe Biden, former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush, and Vice President Kamala Harris, according to CNN.

Social media users are sharing an image of Trump, claiming it shows Trump had not been shot during the July 13 attempted assassination that left one person dead. One user wrote, “Amazing how that ear looks like it was never hit with a bullet at all.”

This claim is false. The FBI confirmed in a July 26, 2024, statement that Trump was struck by a bullet or bullet fragments during the July 13 attempted assassination, according to The New York Times.

“What struck former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, whether whole or fragmented into smaller pieces, fired from the deceased subject’s rifle,” reads part of the statement. (RELATED: Viral X Image Falsely Claims Trump Rally Shooter Was Transgender)

A September 2024 bipartisan Senate committee report on the Secret Service found that “At approximately 6:11:25, Crooks fired an initial volley of three shots, one of which struck former President Trump in the ear.”

Check Your Fact previously reported on false claims that Trump had not been struck in the ear by a bullet. We found that, despite no official confirmation at the time, Trump had been shot in the ear.
