Verdict: Misleading
The video was taken in 2020. It shows Border Patrol arresting a suspected human smuggler.
Fact Check:
President Donald Trump signed the Laken Riley Act, which gives federal authorities more powers in deporting immigrants, according to The Associated Press. He also stated that criminal illegal immigrants would be housed at Guantanamo Bay, per the outlet.
Social media users are claiming to show an illegal immigrant being arrested in 2025. One user wrote, “Your time in the USA is over.” (RELATED: Claim That Trump Plans To Invalidate Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Program Is Satire)
This claim is misleading. It is true that the video shows Border Patrol arresting someone. The man who was arrested was an illegal immigrant and was suspected of human smuggling, according to WWLP. The video, though, was taken in February 2020.
“Border agents deploy Taser during struggle with suspected human smuggler inside Burger King,” reads the video description on YouTube.
The original video was uploaded in February 2020 and then deleted after being viewed over 1 million times, according to WWLP. Border Patrol stated that “[t]he video clearly shows the subject causing a disturbance as Border Patrol agents attempt to arrest him.”
The Community Note attached to the original post claims that the video was taken during President Joe Biden’s administration. This is wrong, however. It was taken during the first Trump administration, as Biden did not take office until January 2021.
