Mitch is dead apparently.

Verdict: False
The original post was shared on X on Feb. 17 by a parody account.
Fact Check:
President Donald Trump said McConnell is “not equipped mentally” after McConnell refused to vote to confirm Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., according to Fox News. Trump also referred to McConnell as a “very bitter guy,” the outlet reported.
The X post claims McConnell died in February 2025. “Mitch is dead apparently. At least these evil pr-cks don’t ever get to retire and enjoy a few years before Hell,” the post reads. The post includes a screenshot of another X post announcing McConnell’s purported death at age 82.
The claim is false. The original post was shared on X on Feb. 17 by @Brkng911, which is a parody account. The account describes itself as a “parody artist” via its bio. “If you fell for my bait, you owe me eight dollars,” the account’s bio adds. The original post has garnered over 300,000 views as of writing.
Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find any reference to the claim on McConnell’s website or his verified social media accounts. Trump does not appear to have publicly commented on the claim, either.
In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Feb. 18, Lead Stories debunked the claim, tracing its origin to the same post shared by the parody account.
Although the claim is false, McConnell fell twice at the U.S. Capitol on Feb. 5, prompting him to be escorted out of the building in a wheelchair, USA Today reported. (RELATED: Did The State Department Say They Would Buy $400 Million Worth Of Tesla Trucks?)
