FACT CHECK: Greenland Did Not Vote To Join The US

A post shared on Facebook claims Greenland voted to join the United States.

Verdict: Misleading

These are the results of an opinion poll. Greenland has not voted to join the U.S.

Fact Check:

Social media users are claiming that Greenland voted to join the U.S. One user wrote, “The People of Greenland voted to join the U.S. EU [DS] in Denmark are also in full panic. Another Spoiler Alert – this is also already done. Enjoy the show.”

This claim is misleading. No media outlets have reported that Greenland voted to join the U.S. Further, a search of Greenland’s government website does not note that Greenland voted to join the U.S.

It appears that the claim originates from an opinion poll. It polled 416 people and found that 57% supported joining the U.S. The pollsters write, “Patriot Polling surveyed 416 people residing across the Danish territory of Greenland on their support for joining the United States.”

Logically Facts also debunked this claim.
