An image shared on X purports to show a recent post from the platform’s owner, Elon Musk, in which he appeared to claim that billionaires are “tired” of subsidizing schools and other services.

Verdict: False

The image originally stems from a satirical channel on Reddit. Musk did not post the purported remark.

Fact Check:

Musk appeared at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Oxon Hill, Maryland on Feb. 20, according to The Associated Press. Musk was joined onstage by Argentine President Javier Milei, who gifted him a chainsaw reading, “Long live liberty, damn it” in Spanish, the outlet reported.

The X image, viewed over 1,000 times as of writing, purports to show a recent post from Musk in which he appeared to claim that billionaires are “tired” of subsidizing schools and other services.

“Here’s the hard truth: this country’s billionaires are tired of subsidizing everyone else’s schools, parks, health care, even food and entertainment. You want nature? Buy some land. Health care? Befriend a doctor. Entertainment? Roll around in the mud with your fellow pigs,” the purported post attributed to Musk reads. Besides X, the claim circulated on Threads.

The claim is false. Check Your Fact conducted a keyword search and found the image originally stems from Reddit, where it was recently posted on the “Toilet Paper USA” channel. The channel describes itself as sharing satirical content.

Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find the purported remark via an advanced search of Musk’s verified X account, @elonmusk.

In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Feb. 20, Snopes debunked the claim, tracing its origin to the same satirical Reddit channel. (RELATED: Did The State Department Say They Would Buy $400 Million Worth Of Tesla Trucks?)
