Verdict: False
The purported post is not referenced on any of Trump’s verified social media accounts, including his personal X account @realDonaldTrump. In addition, a White House spokesperson denied the claim’s validity in an email to Check Your Fact.
Fact Check:
Trump supported Tesla and the company’s CEO Elon Musk when he shopped for a vehicle on the White House driveway this week, according to The Associated Press. Trump selected a red Model S and said he would leave the vehicle at the White House for his staff to drive, the outlet reported.
The X image, viewed over one million times as of writing, purports to show a post from Trump purportedly providing a discount of “up to $1,000 dollars off” Tesla purchases with his referral link.
“Get up to $1,000 off the purchase of a Tesla with my referral link,” the purported post reads. A referral link does not appear to be visible in the post.
The claim is false. Check Your Fact conducted an advanced search of Trump’s verified X account @realDonaldTrump and did not find any reference to the purported post. The post also does not appear on Trump’s government X account @POTUS, his TRUTH Social account, or his verified social media accounts.
Likewise, the claim does not appear on Tesla’s website or its verified X account @Tesla. Musk has not publicly commented on the claim, either. In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On March 11, Lead Stories debunked the claim.
