A viral post shared on X claims France has purportedly offered conservative commentator Candace Owens a one-time payment of $4 million and $50,000 a month for the rest of her life to stop reporting on French First Lady Brigitte Macron.

Verdict: False

Neither Owens nor French President Emmanuel Macron have referenced the claim on their respective websites or verified social media accounts, and there is no other evidence to support the claim.

Fact Check:

Back in November, Owens was refused a visa to enter New Zealand for a speaking engagement, according to The Associated Press. Owens previously had a visa request rejected in Australia, which cited remarks in which she allegedly denied Jews experienced medical experimentation in Nazi concentration camps, the outlet reported.

The X post, viewed over nine million times as of writing, claims France has purportedly offered Owens a one-time payment of $4 million and $50,000 a month for the rest of her life to stop reporting on Macron.

“BREAKING: FRANCE offered to pay CANDACE OWENS a one-time payment of $4 MILLION & $50K per-month for the rest of her life, if she STOPPED REPORTING on BRIGITTE MACRON,” the post, which includes side-by-side photos of Owens and Macron, reads. The post does not provide a source to support its claim.

The claim is false. Check Your Fact did not find the claim referenced on French President Emmanuel Macron’s website or his verified social media accounts. Likewise, Owens does not appear to have commented on the claim via her website or verified social media accounts.

In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On March 13, Snopes debunked the claim.

Owens launched a series called “Becoming Brigitte” via her verified YouTube channel in February. In the series, Owens explores claims that Brigitte Macron is purportedly transgender. In an online episode of her podcast, “Candace,” Owens alleged she had received a legal threat from President Macron in response to her claims about his wife.
