A post shared on X claims that a post from a college group calling for the end of western civilization is fake.

Verdict: Misleading

There is evidence that the post is real.

Fact Check:

Social media users are claiming that CUAD, the group that Mahmoud Khalil is a part of, called for the destruction of Western civilization in an Instagram post.

“Heads up, this is a fake. This statement came from a group called the Columbia University Bengali Student Association. It was printed in Mondoweiss on August 4, 2024, in a much longer essay “expressing solidarity with the student movement in Bangladesh.” On August 8, 2024, the IG accounts called JewsinSchools and antisemitismtoday posted this picture claiming it was from the CUAD’s page after an X user named the stustustudio posted the Mondoweiss article to his X page. This is the evidence of ‘radicalism’ all the Zionists are using to attack Mahmoud Khalil today. A screenshot of a fake IG post,” reads the post.

The post, though, does not appear to be fake. Campus Reform, New York Post and other outlets have reported on the alleged Instagram post. There is no evidence that these reports are false.

Tal Hagin, a research fellow at Fake Reporter, also fact-checked the claim and found that the Instagram post was likely real.

The link to the alleged Instagram post has been archived, though it is not available due to Instagram’s privacy settings. (RELATED: Did Harper Collins Omit 64,575 Words In The NIV And ESV Versions?)
