FACT CHECK: Has Michelle Obama Been Receiving A Monthly Payment Of $122,000 From The GSA Since 2009?
A screenshot shared on Facebook claims former First Lady Michelle Obama has purportedly been receiving monthly payments of $122,000 from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) since 2009.
Verdict: False
The claim is false and originates from a recent article published by the satirical website “The Dunning-Kruger Times.”
Fact Check:
Obama has launched a podcast called “IMO,” or “In My Opinion,” with her brother Craig Robinson, according to The Independent. The podcast focuses on life and Obama’s experiences being married to former President Barack Obama, the outlet reported.
The screenshot claims Obama has purportedly been receiving monthly payments of $122,000 from the GSA since 2009. “DOGE found this little gem while doing a general audit of the GSA, the agency that acts as the country’s checkbook and accounts receivable department,” text included in the screenshot reads.
“Michelle Obama has been receiving a monthly $122,000 payment from the GSA since 2009!!!” the screenshot’s caption adds.
The claim is false and originates from a recent article published by the satirical website “The Dunning-Kruger Times.” According to the website’s “About Us” page, it is “a subsidiary of the ‘America’s Last Line of Defense’ network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery.”
The satirical article claims that Obama purportedly received money for various purposes and initiatives, including $25,000 for a “National Vegetable Awareness Program” within the alleged $122,000 monthly payments.
Likewise, Obama does not appear to have publicly commented on the claim. The GSA has not issued a press release or a social media statement responding to the claim, either. (RELATED: Has France Offered Candace Owens $4 Million To Stop Reporting On Brigitte Macron?)
In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On March 13, Lead Stories debunked the claim, tracing its origin to the same Dunning-Kruger Times article. Besides Lead Stories, Snopes also debunked the claim.
Check Your Fact has contacted Obama and the GSA for comment.
