A post shared on Twitter claims Twitter CEO Elon Musk has raised the price of Twitter Blue verification from $8 per month to $15 per month.

Verdict: False

There is no evidence for the claim. The Twitter website states that Twitter Blue costs $8 per month on the web and $11 per month for iOS or Android.

Fact Check:

Twitter Blue subscribers and verified accounts are now indistinguishable, making it harder to find legitimate accounts, according to Sky News. Musk removed the New York Times’ blue checkmark after the news outlet announced that it would not be paying for verification, according to CNN.

The Facebook post purports the new price for Twitter Blue is now $15 per month. The post includes an image that allegedly shows a notification stating the user’s Twitter Blue subscription costs $15 dollars per month to renew.

“Elon has increased his nerd tax to $15/month,” the post’s caption reads. (RELATED: Did Elon Musk Ban Greta Thunberg From Twitter?)

There is no evidence for this claim, however. Check Your Fact found no credible news reports about the alleged price increase. Twitter Blue costs $8 per month on the web and $11 per month for iOS or Android, according to a page on Twitter’s Help Center.

Check Your Fact has reached out to Twitter for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.

This is not the first time misinformation involving Musk has gone viral. Check Your Fact previously debunked a claim that Musk is filing a lawsuit against the TV show “The View” for lying about him.
