FACT CHECK: No, John Kennedy Did Not Reveal A ‘Laundering Scheme’

A video shared on Facebook allegedly shows Louisiana Republican Sen. John Kennedy revealing a “laundering scheme.”

Verdict: False

The title of the video is entirely unrelated to its contents. It does not depict Kennedy discussing laundering.

Fact Check:

During a committee meeting last week, Kennedy left Biden’s Secretary of Energy, David Turk, without words after asking how much spending $50 trillion to become carbon-neutral would reduce world temperatures, according to Fox News. Turk said during the meeting that the U.S. must become carbon-neutral by 2050, The Maine Wire reported.

A Facebook post purports Kennedy revealed money laundering was accruing. The thumbnail features Kennedy and Lt. Gen Scott Spellmon. “‘LET ME SHOW YOU'” the title reads. “Watch Biden Witness STUNNED After Senator Kennedy REVEALS ‘Laundering Scheme.'”

The caption does not match the contents of the video, however. The footage originates from an April 26 Senate committee hearing, which does not contain any mention of laundering. Instead, Kennedy is shown questioning Spellmon regarding a flood control project. At no point do either of the men refer to laundering of any sort.

This is not the first time misinformation about a politician has spread online. Check Your Fact previously debunked a video alleging to show Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley making Attorney General Merrick Garland cry at a committee hearing.
