A post shared on social media purportedly shows a recent photo of an Israeli soldier standing on a child in Gaza.

Verdict: False

The caption is inaccurate. The video dates back to at least 2011.

Fact Check:

Vermont Independent Senator Bernie Sanders recently stated his opposition to further aid for Israel, according to NBC News. Sanders claimed that he does not want to support the current military operations being conducted in Gaza by the “right-wing extremist Netanyahu government.”

The Twitter post purports to show an Israeli soldier standing on a child during the Israel-Hamas conflict. The post shared a cropped photo of a man standing on a child with a weapon pointed at her, claiming the man is part of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

The caption reads, “THIS IS HOW ISRAELIS TREAT CHILDREN. #ElonGoToGaza.”

The claim is inaccurate. The photo dates back to at least 2011 when a piece was written about the incident. Furthermore, the image is cropped and does not show the full context of the image. The uncropped image shows that the man is not wearing an official IDF uniform. Furthermore, the IDF does not use AK-47s, according to Forbes.

The image appears to have been staged as part of a protest, according to the IDF. Some reports, including one from another blog, indicate that this photo was taken in Bahrain in 2009. (RELATED: Video Of Pakistani Air Force Is Old)
