FACT CHECK: No, Google Maps Does Not Show Jeffrey Epstein’s Island As Venue For The Democratic National Convention

A photo shared on Facebook allegedly shows a screenshot from Google Maps showing convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s island as the location for the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC).

Verdict: False

A search of Google Maps reveals that there is no such indicator that the DNC will take place at the island.

Fact Check:

U.S. bank J.P. Morgan is suing its former employee Jes Staley over his relationship to Epstein, according to the Guardian. Staley allegedly shared suggestive emails with Epstein, some of which contained pictures of young women, according to a federal lawsuit against J.P. Morgan, CNN reported.

A Facebook post claims that Google Maps lists Epstein’s island, Little St. James, as the location for the 2024 DNC. The post shares an alleged screenshot of the island on Google Maps with a marker declaring the location for the DNC.

“Look up Epstein Island on Google maps right now and you’ll find that the Democrat National Convention is being hosted there,” the caption reads.

The claim is fabricated, however. Google Maps does not show a pin for the 2024 DNC on Little Saint James island. The finalists for the 2024 DNC location include Atlanta, Chicago and New York City, according to ABC News. However, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to suggest that Little Saint James island was chosen as a venue for the DNC , or that a venue has been chosen. A Google spokesperson told Reuters the image stems from an incorrect entry made by a user on the platform. They reiterated the entry had been removed from the Maps tool.

Check Your Fact has reached out to Google and the Democratic National Committee for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.

This is not the first time misinformation about the democratic party has been spread online. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim President Joe Biden called for a national military draft.
