Verdict: False
The video is from January 2023. It shows Torske, which is 60 kilometers away from Bakhmut.
Fact Check:
Ukraine is currently holding onto a part of Bakhmut as pro-Russian forces, led by the private military company Wagner Group, attempt to capture the entirety of the city, according to Reuters.
The Twitter video, viewed more than 70,000 times, claims to show Ukrainian forces trying to leave Bakhmut. The video’s caption reads, “UAF tried to leave Artemovsk/Bakhmut along the road, which is under the fire control of PMC ‘Wagner’ After arriving in front of the nose, they decided to return to their hole.”
However, the video is from January 2023, not April, as claimed by the Twitter video. Through a reverse image and keyword search, Check Your Fact found that the video is from January 2023.
GeoConfirmed, a Twitter account that geolocates videos and images from the Russian-Ukrainian war, debunked the claim. Check Your Fact confirmed the geolocation cited in the tweet.
